Doctor : Tung Wing Chan

Dr. Tung Chan has taught scientific writing at Beijing University of Chemical Technology since 2009. He has taught the same course for Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech)in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Tianjin University. He is currently adjunct professor of Materials Science and Engineering atVirginia Tech, and scientific advisor at the Center of Advanced Elastomer Materials and the Institute of Modern Catalysisof the State Key Laboratory of Chemical Resource Engineering, both at Beijing University of Chemical Technology. From 2009 to 2011, he was consultant to the School of Chemical Engineering and Environment at Beijing Institute of Technology.

Prior, Dr. Chan served as principal scientist or rheologist at various institutions including EM Associates, Inc., Alliant Techsystems, Inc., WedTech (USA) Inc., and the Institute of Polymer Engineering at the University of Akron, specializing in the research and development of propellants and inert simulants, design of extrusion dies for propellants, and computer modeling of propellant flows, gun internal ballistics, and injection molding of crystallizable polymers. He also has extensive experience in the commercialization ofcrosslinkable and linear polyethylene compounds for rotomolding. Early in his career, Dr. Chan was visiting professor in the Polymer Science Department at Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology, where he became an Approved Ph.D. Supervisor in one of the first doctoral programs in that department.

 

 

Dr. Chan has over 60 publications in international conferences and journalsand was a member of the Society of Rheology and Association of Rotomolders. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo, Canada, and M.Eng and B.Eng from McMaster University, Canada, all in chemical engineering.
